The National Cherry Growers & Industries Foundation (NCGIF) is a nonprofit corporation formed in 1948 for the purpose of having a unified effort from the processed cherry industry to lobby against excessive cherry imports. It then evolved that assessments were used for promotion of maraschino, canned and frozen cherries.
The foundation collects contributions from the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Michigan and Utah growers and processors. The Marketing Director, Cheryl Kroupa, looks for partnership opportunities with other commodities, hotel and restaurant chains and liquor companies to use cherries in advertising, holiday interest and menu promotions.
It is governed by a 15-20 member board of growers, briners and processors representing the five states listed above. The foundation compiles and distributes to members a yearly statistical publication of information regarding cherry production, utilization and sales, both import and export. In recent years the foundation took over collecting information from the industry regarding cherries going into brine at the end of the season by state from the Northwest Cherry Briners Association. This report is also distributed to members and other interested parties.
